2019 Mac Pro - PCIe Expansion slot utility Capacity - 150%
I have a new Mac Pro and I've got every single PCIe slot full. Two GFX taking up the 4 double wides, the afterburner card in the x16, the I/O card in the x4, and then two NVME flash HDs occupying the final two x8.
Can someone help explain to me the the whole expansion slot utility? I get that there's a predefined amount available. And that each card add towards that 100%.
The Afterburner card takes up 100% of Pool A, all 16 lanes. Leaving 16 lanes in Pool B. However, you can expand up to 20 lanes, based on the open slots. two x8 and one x4. Which is already kind of annoying.
Then to boot, whenever you add a thunderbolt drive or peripheral you occupy another 25% of the pool.
Long story short, I have two pools that are running over 100%.Depending on what I'm using, I can be at 150% or Pool A and 125% of pool B. Which makes them red and disconcerting. I want to know what are the negative effects of doing this? And is this acceptable or an absolute no-no?
Thanks in advance.
