How do I use my serial number to determine my IPhone model?

You are able to do this by going to checkcoverage.apple.com and typing the serial number in there.

The model number can be found in the Settings on the device.

This does not help. I need to know how to use my serial number outside of my iphone. In other words, my phone is not functional right now, and I cannot go to General>about....
