Using Homepod(s) as AppleTV speakers has changed with tvOS 14.2

There is no longer an Audio Output setting in tvOS 14.2 under Video & Audio to connect Homepod(s) speaker(s) to the AppleTV. One has to use the Control Center on the Remote by pressing and holding the TV button until the Control Center appears on screen and selecting the AirPlay icon. It took me a long time to find this method after updating my AppleTV HD but it does appear that tvOS 14.2 fixes the problem of losing the Homepod speaker setting between uses of AppleTV.

Strange - my ATV 4K still has the selection in Settings but it has been renamed "Default Audio Output". I also noticed that the cursor beeps (using the remote) now play through the Homepods (previously they only played through the TV) and I can now adjust the Homepod volume.

I tried out the improved surround sound# last night by renting a 4K/Dolby movie. It was noticeably better than my previous stereo output.

So it looks (sounds) like Apple have got their act together with home theatre.

But note "The feature doesn’t support the Apple TV HD or other AirPlay-2 enabled speakers..."
