what wattage can magsafe charger get on a usb-pd with 9v 3a profile on iphone 12 pro max?

https://www.macworld.co.uk/feature/magsafe-why-you-only-get-15-watts-with-some-power-adapters-3797582/?fbclid=IwAR2pUZy2L9MsjJJA7xdpZLjSL_2J3N-NlYExxXhldbLJgA2bm9Fvw9RNOKE

I read the above article and https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211829

  • which states "9V/2.22A or 9V/2.56A and higher"

I just want to confirm for a fact that a charger brick MUST provide the 9V 2.22A profile to get full 15W charging with the magsafe charger or will it work with the more commonly available 9V 3A profile?

Hi chrisloup,

Thanks for posting to Apple Support Communities. We understand you want to clarify wattage needed for charging your iPhone 12.

Adapters at or above 9V/2.56A will also deliver a maximum of up to 15W peak power to iPhone 12. You can also use the MagSafe charger with an adapter with minimum 12W of power, but will experience slower charging. These details can be found in How to use your MagSafe Charger with iPhone 12 models.

We hope that helps!
