Uninstall Linux Mac Pro 2008

Hi all,

I have a Mac Pro 2008 that's running Linux Mint. No recovery partitions on the drive, just straight Linux.

What options do I have to reinstall MacOS? (El Capitan)

It won't boot to any form of recovery or internet recovery, and I've tried creating a bootable USB using the .dmg download and transmac, but I can't get it to boot from that either.

Any ideas?

Great advice from HWTech as usual!

I would just add, after you install 10.6 from DVD, you MUST fully update to 10.6.8 -- including ALL updates -- before you get the full abilities of the Mac App Store, such as getting El Capitan.

The other place to look for a Recovery partition is on a Time machine backup drive, if you have one of those after 10.7.3.

Unfortunately I've seen other users report not being able to create a bootable macOS USB installer using TransMac and Apple's instructions require access to a Mac so you can extract the "installer" to the Applications folder before being able to create a USB drive.

If you don't have access to another Mac, then you can use the retail version of the OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD. Once you install OSX 10.6 you can download & install macOS 10.11.
