Malwarebytes for Mac was developed by one of our long time contributors here. It is regularly recommended here and by Apple support. It is in no way in the same “class” as AV apps. Malwarebytes will take care of adware and malware.

please do not run ANY third party app for malware, they are annoying lampreys for MacBooks and no one likes these programs.

perform a file search by date the day we received the malware and delete that file.

clear safari cache and reboot the MacBook air, after the chime before th e logo press at one P-R-opt-cmd to reset the pram.

that's all you need to do.

then in disk utility perform a first aid and verify the disk.

What message do you get or what do you experience that let you conclude there is malware?
