Can’t send voice memos as I had before update?

I installed the iOS 14.1 update. A friend and I usually send voice memos back-and-forth. Originally our memos could be 10 minutes long and they would still send through.

I can still receive long memos from him. However, when I go to send my memo, it says that the file type is too large and will only allow me to send memos that are less than one minute and 20 seconds. This is super inconvenient for me, as well as him since I’m having to spam him with a bunch of one minute messages. What can I do to fix this?

Hey there!

Thanks for updating us and for sharing these additional details.

To confirm, this issue also occurs when you're connected to Wi-Fi? If you have not tested this, please connect to a strong reliable Wi-Fi network and try to share one of your voice memos. What happens when you try to share your voice memos via AirDrop or via email?

There is an additional troubleshooting step we can attempt. If you have important voice memos you can save the to your iCloud Drive or sync them to iCloud. After you've confirmed that your important voice memos are saved, you can delete the Voice Memos app and reinstall it to see if that helps. Just in case, the following resources can help:

That is correct.

I was originally only using my cellular network. For some reason, WiFi was always spotty with my phone, but it never bothered me because I have unlimited data.

The issue occurs with all contacts. And I did update my device today to the iOS 14.2. I tried sending a longer memo right after update was complete, and it still will not allow me to send a memo longer than 1 minute and 20 second.

Correct. The problem continues whether I send it on WiFi or through my regular data.

They send as they should via email. I do not get the “memo too long” notification. Unfortunately sending via email isn’t an option since he’s on the road. This is how we communicate without having to be on the phone, but to where he can still drive without being impeded.

I uninstalled the app and reinstalled. It still says my attachment is too long. It’s sending them as mp4. Not sure if I can change that or if it makes a difference?

Hello Uncoventionals.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're unable to share voice memos that are longer than a minute and 20 seconds long. If this is the case, we'd like to look into this issue with you.

When attempting to share voice memos, are you connected via Wi-Fi or are you using your cellular network? Does this issue only occur with this specific contact or with other contacts as well? We noticed that you're using iOS 14.1. Apple has recently released iOS 14.2. To help further isolate this issue, we recommend that you create a backup of your data and update your device. Just in case, the following resources can guide you:
