Apple Smart Keyboard no longer deletes emails using delete key

I have an 8th generation iPad and a Smart Keyboard. Ever since upgrading to iPadOS 14.2, my delete key will not work for deleting emails. I can use it for deleting characters (backspace) while editing text but not as an action when I am cleaning out a mailbox in the Mail.app.

Prior to iPadOS 14.2, this ability existed and on my old iPad using a Logitech keyboard folio, the same feature existed to delete emails from your mailbox using the delete key.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and has anyone fixed it?

I have a 12.9” iPad Pro with Apple keyboard, same here. With 14.1, the Delete key worked only under certain sequences, which I learned.

My MacBook Pro has been sitting in the Houston repair facility for 10 days now, how I miss it. Having to use the iPad as my only computing device is very frustrating in light of the claims that the same app runs in the same way. I can’t set up email rules on the iPad, and so am inundated with spam. SHIFT-CMD-J seems to remove move the email to Junk. The inconsistency is driving me crazy.
