A simple way to attach an HEIC to email as JPEG?

I currently store my photos in iCloud in HEIC format. While it may save space, I have to convert the HEIC image to a JPEG if I want to attach it to a computer generated email.

Is there an easier way to get my HEIC images into an email? Are all modern computers capable of reading an HEIC file such that my concerns are less relevant?

How about an Automator application that lets you interactively pick the .heic image, converts a copy of it to .jpg, opens a new blank email, and then automatically attaches the converted .jpg to the email as a small attachment?

Introduced in 2015, HEIF/HEIC was adopted by Apple in 2017 with the introduction of iOS 11, and support on other platforms is growing...

On some systems, pictures stored in the HEIC format are converted automatically to the older JPEG format when they are sent outside of the system.

When you share media using other methods, such as AirDrop, Messages, or email, it might be shared in a more compatible format, such as JPEG or H.264, depending on whether the receiving device supports the newer media format.
