Get rid of items dropped to desktop

I accidentally dropped an item, a link to a web site and am unable to get rid of it now. It acts like an app, but it a link to a web site instead and will not let me delete it

You can't hold an icon until they all wiggle, then hit the "x" in the corner to delete it?

no, it won't wiggle and the "x" comes up like other apps. This is not an ap, it is a link to a website, when you open the app, it goes directly to the website. It will not allow me to delete from I Tunes

Works just fine here.
Created a link to youtube mobile site on the "desk top".
Hold icon-they start to wiggle, x appears in the corner. Press the x-it deletes it.
