I am trying to clean up my the Contacts on my iPhone X. Whenever I try to link contacts the app crashes. Never happened before, just started doing this today.
I am hoping it is a problem with last upgrade. Anyone else having this issue?

I've been having this problem for a while too (iPhone X mult software updates, latest iOS) and finally called Apple tech support. They sent me through mult geniuses and said they were going to work on it and call me back in a wk. Today they called me to say "other users are having this problem too, and we don't currently have a solution. When we do there will be an iOS upgrade and you should upgrade the phone." I've tried a variety of solutions to no avail.

i have this same issue with all of my Apple devices since upgrade to iOS 14.1
it is happening on my iPhone 11 Pro max, iPad 11 pro and iPad 12.9 pro first generation
all of them are iOS update to 14.2
i am trying to link contacts from gmail and Microsoft exchange
I just got my iPhone 12 and every time I try to link my contacts it crashes the app and it closes. It’s ridiculous! I have tried everything. I’m left with manually deleting contacts and copy/paste information between them. So frustrating! Come on Apple! This should not be that hard! I have the most recent update and it is still not fixed!
I presumed this was an issue for older phones, I use an X. The fact that they still have it on the latest devices is totally inexcusable.
I have a buddy that works for Apple; told me we need to get a sh!tload more people to register this issue in order for it to hit their Radar tool that creates the prioritization for making fixes. Unfortunately there are bigger problems for them to fix than this one.
Yup, can manually delete dupe's, or do my editing in iCloud.
Didn’t have this issue with my iPhone X with the latest update but just upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the linking crashes. Now I am left with multiples of the same contact. I have tried all of the options mentioned and nothing works. Hopefully Apple will fix this bug soon with the next update.
The solution I’ve found is to not link contacts🤪.
Tried the restart before, doesn’t help. Problem still happening no matter what contact record I choose. Touch Edit>Link Contacts and app closes.
Would not be a problem if linking contacts on my Mac also translated to my phone.
This did not resolve it. I’ve restarted, fq it, and I’m on 14.4. This is getting really old! iPhone 12 nothing but problems! With the yellow tint, contacts not linking... I’m already thinking this will be traded in soon. Very disappointed Apple. At least admit when you’re wrong and fix your bugs!
I’ve also seen a suggestion that you just delete one of the duplicate contacts. But when I do that, sometimes, but not always, both of the contacts disappear. That’s really messed up because now I can’t recover the data
I have had this issue for quite some time. It has been so long, I don't remember when it started happening. There have been several updates and have restarted my phone MANY times and it has never been fixed.
I am having this same exact problem and it just started. I didn't have this before, but now I seemingly can't link any contacts. When I click on the "link contacts" button, the app crashes.
Same problem here - contacts has not been the same since the update. Contacts crashes as soon as I hit Link

I am having same issue it is now Jan 2021 amd cant get it fixed. Every time I open the app and tried to link my duplicate contacts it shuts down my contacts app
