Cannot connect to WiFi

Hello, I have an iPhone XS and I just updated it to iOS 14 about a month ago.

I am at college right now so I have connected to the universities WiFi that covers the whole campus. But I just recently noticed that my phone wasn’t connected to the WiFi in my dorm room but when I go to the WiFi settings it is full bars. When I click on the network it just says “unable to join the network”. I have tried several things including turning my phone off then back on, forgetting the network and starting over, gone somewhere else in the dorm building, etc. and nothing works. BUT when I go to a different building on campus it connects to the same network just fine. The only place the universities network doesn’t work is my dorm it seems like. When I first moved in here I was able to connect to the WiFi and I was connected to the WiFi when I updated to iOS 14 because I guess updates require it (I cannot update to iOS 14.2 because I am not connected to WiFi).

If you have any questions, something that might work or you’ve had the same issues please let me know!! It would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Hello N_Tram3,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! We understand that you're having an issue connecting to the university Wi-Fi while you're in your dorm.

You've done a great job troubleshooting this already and isolating to determine that the issue is only occurring in your dorm, but not other university buildings.

While the university has the same Wi-Fi network name across campus, there are typically different routers and access points which transmit the university network. With it only occurring in your dorm, let's take a look and see if the private Wi-Fi address feature is turned on. Follow the steps under "Turn private address off or on for a network" in this article: Use private Wi-Fi addresses in iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and watchOS 7

If this feature is on, it's possible that the Wi-Fi network in your dorm building may not be able to support this feature. Turn it off, and restart your iPhone with these steps: Restart your iPhone.

Let us know the results.
