Verify this is the same phone

I recently sold an iPhone on eBay. It was in mint condition and shipped in a case with a screen protector, wrapped in plenty of bubble wrap.

The buyer says the screen was messed up when they received it so I have had to allow a return.

It dawned on me today - what if this person had a messed up phone that matched mine and is returning his messed up phone to me?

I have the original box with the serial info - can I use this data to verify that I get the same phone back that I sent the purchaser?
