Does the EOL for Flash mean the EOL for my Late-2012 Mac Mini?

Hi, I'm wondering what the limitations will be for those of us running Safari 13, after Flashplayer's EOL on December 31, 2020. I've got a Late-2012 Mac Mini, the i5 version (2.5 GHz), with 16G RAM, and an SSD. It runs beautifully on macOS Catalina Public Beta 10.15.1. According to Apple, I cannot update macOS beyond the version of Catalina I'm currently running. I believe this also precludes me from updating to Safari 14, which does not rely on Flashplayer.

Apparently your Mac still runs an older Catalina Beta version;

which had been superseded by full version release some time

ago. Well before Big Sur, & etc. (unless experimental task is run)

There had been no reason to have Adobe Flash Player in any

of the macOS since 2010. ~ Pending notice of Flash expiry was

announced over three years ago. + HTML5 been replacement.

Without need or purpose, Adobe Flash Player for beta-Catalina

fails to supply anything practical; except for testing pre-release

version of that 'now defunct' software version.

With the grand master Catalina 10.15.x now history, and Adobe

Flash is played out; to uninstall the beta version Catalina; or

erase & install last-version 10.15.7 is next up. (Big Sur? unlikely.)

+ Mac should run 'latest-supported' macOS official full version.

You don’t understand what’s talking place. Flash Player’s demise has nothing to do with your Mac Mini. Adobe is killing Flash for everybody, not just macOS. Flash was a proprietary framework for creating online video. From the beginning it was plagued by security issues and was THE major vector for hackers getting into a system. Over three years ago Flash became obsolete when HTML5 was approved as an international, non-proprietary standard for video on the the internet. Adobe gave developers three years notice that Flash was going away for good. Adobe recommends all users uninstall Flash ASAP.

Your Mac Mini has had HTML5 built-in from the beginning. You will not notice a thing when Flash is gone. Most websites switched to HTML5 years ago. For those developers who couldn’t or wouldn’t switch over, their products will simply stop working with no workaround after the first of the year. Dead, period.

I myself uninstalled Flash two years ago and have had no issues what-so-ever. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. If you still have Flash installed on your Mac Mini remove it as soon as you can because it’s juts a doorstop now.

As for you being stuck on 10.15.1 that's complete nonsense. I don’t know where you got that. It certainly wasn’t from Apple. Your 2012 Mac Mini can run Catalina 10.15.7 perfectly and you should update to the very latest.

Thank you for the information. After posting my question, I went ahead and removed Flash and everything is fine.

I found the information about updating the late-2012 MacMini at: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211238

Again, that article is talking macOS 11.0 Big Sur, not Catalina. You are running the earliest version of Catalina and you need to update to the latest version 10.15.7. There is no reason not to.

PS: If you've done little with Catalina (beta) you could erase and install

using the tools within a recent latest final version 10.15.7 from this page:

• How to erase your Intel-based Mac - Apple Support

Or you may need to Create a bootable installer for macOS,

to restore a system to wiped hard drive; to start afresh.

{This may be useful should linked method to remove beta

and install the full last version Catalina 10.15.7, be in error.

Sometimes a non-Apple article can work, sometimes not.}

..Good luck & happy computing.!
