I just upgraded to Big Sur. When I move a message to trash by clicking the icon, it is absolutely gone. In Catalina, I was always able to view the trash before permanently deleting it and I could move it back to the inbox or any other folder I have if I mistakenly placed it in trash. Am I missing something or is moving the message to trash actually deleting it? Thanks!

I contacted Apple support, they had me go into mailbox behaviors and move everything to the imap servers instead on my my mac. When it is on on "My Mac" mail creates a seperate folder for trash and junk for each mailbox. Once I moved everything in "mailbox behaviors" my "All Trash", All Junk" etc all returned to favorites automatically.
Correct! Doesn't work in Full screen. Sorry I didn't see this earlier, I could have saved you the call....😂

Can't see the All bins or All trashes you are mentioning... what's wrong? Of course, All Bins/All Trashes is NOT present in the sidebar...

When I look at my trashed email using Big Sur, there is nothing there to review. It comes up as a blank page. How may I "fix" this so that I can review before deleting my trashed emails?
Check out Jud22 (above) that may be a work around for you even though it has extra clicks to perform.
Andrew gave the solution. When you hover over favorites, on same line you will see the + sign and the down arrow. Click the + sign and when the screen opens to what Andrew provided, place cursor in the type space and then select the items you want. Problem solved.
