Hope someone can help,

I have the old airport extreme dome and a bunch of wifi devices that connect through it - 2 iphones, 2 itouches, a wii, a xbox 360 and a playstation. My home Imac G5 connects through the stations ethernet port.

For whatever reason, the extreme needs to be reset almost daily - usually I just unplug it and plug it back in, wait a few moments and reselect the network from the airport icon on the top of the desktop.

Is there a more long term fix than my daily routine of resetting the network?

Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the same boat as you. Using a 2004 version Airport Extreme Base Station running a b/g network continuously since I got it as a refurb in 2006. Seemingly no problems until recently.

More frequently these days the Airport's signal drops out and a reset is in order. This seems to have started with the acquisition of a couple of iPads, though perhaps this is a coincidence.

Whereas the ethernet connected devices often get 6 or more Mbps (seen it as high as 14Mbps), the wireless devices (2 MBPs, 2 iPads, 1 iPod Touch and occasionally an old PowerBook and Wii) get as low as 0.15Mbps and as high as 5Mbps but often these days it is half that. There is also an Airport Express on the network that acts as a WiFi extender to another section of the house, but more often than not it is turned off as a surge protector along with all my stereo equipment, TV and Wii (an energy saving measure). We've had that on the network since we bought the ABS.

I'd like to see if there is a solution to this problem before I investigate getting another Airport device.

I'm having the same problem and it is also a recent development.

Same problemo here - have to reset at least once, usually twice a day. Seems to have occurred since I got my iphone4 (from a 3) but has also happened when I am out the house (wife calls in desperation that the internet is down!)

It could be the Airport having an issue, but I doubt it.

If anyone has any positive input on why this could be happening (apart from a hardware problem) I am sure we would all be grateful.

OK, so it's not just me. Sometimes (but rarely) I can use Network Diagnostics to get it working again. But usually I have to reboot the thing. Annoying during the day but REALLY annoying if I am late night or early morning surfing in bed and have to get out and go downstairs to fix it. #firstworldproblem. Anyway, wondering if newer Time Capsules or Extremes have this problem?

I'm having the same issue (Airport Extreme bought in 2003 sometime). I have several wireless clients, and iMac connected on Ethernet, via a small hub. When the Airport craps out, it affects the wireless and wired. Power-cycling fixes it. I want to say it might have something to do with the Web site I'm running off the iMac. For instance, this morning I was trying to download, from the office, a MySQL dump on PhpMyAdmin. The connection dropped about 6.7MB into the download and I can't reconnect.

This is happening to me as well. Daily if not more drops, only solution is to power down/power up. Same unit, seems to be happening more frequently over the last few weeks/months.

Run Airport Utility and select your Extreme. The firmware revision it's running is shown there. Which is it?

(same question for all in this thread)

I am also having problems with my airport extreme. I need to reset it frequently. This issue has occurred the past two weeks. I am using version 5.7 also. I hope someone can help us with this issue soon!

    Hi John,

it's 7.4.2 (it tells me up to date..) A-Utility 5.5.1 and the AE model is MB763Z/A. I'm suspecting that one pc running Vista could making all this trouble. All other pc's are running XP. My TC at home is just running fine with mbp, iphones, ipad and more. Never had a drop.

Thank you markus. In your case, I believe you may have a different problem than what I'm thinking about. If I'm not mistaken, the other complaints are with the original Airport Extreme. Yours is the newest one, for which there is a different forum: AirPort Extreme (802.11n). The "AirPort Extreme" forum - this one - is the right place for the original "round" Extreme.

The variety of AirPort base stations contributes to an understandable amount of confusion.

I think you may be right, Vista computers bring their own set of problems. If you leave it off the network, and the problem goes away, you've found the culprit. Fixing the problem is another matter altogether.

Meanwhile, I'm interested in the others are all running firmware version 5.7, which is the latest for those units.

Not sure if it means anything, but I haven't had to reset for four days now - so it seems unlikely that it's the hardware.

How about all you others - have you had a few days break from resets?
