Big Sur and Virtual Machines

Wondered if anyone that has gotten Big Sur installed experienced any issues with Virtual Machines (Virtual Box, Parallels, VMWare, etc.)? After the macOS 10.15.6 update caused macOS to crash that had VM running on it, I am a bit cautious.

Hi

I have managed to resolve my problem by doing the following steps below

Have you quit VMware Fusion and re-open it after you checked the accessibility option? Can you try with the following steps and see if it help:

1) Close all running VMs and quit Fusion.

2) Open System Preferences==>Security & Privacy==>Privacy==>Accessibility, remove VMware Fusion and re-add it into the list.

3) Launch VMware Fusion, run Windows 10 VM.

I hope this helps others

Hi

Hope you are well and keeping safe.

If someone reported a problem here on the forum site. Instead of me saying “ There is no problem here with computer since the update, mine works fine”

I would reply back saying. “Try the following options and see if this will help you resolve your problem, if not come back and let us know and we can see if we can help further”. I would not reply to a post saying “ My computer is fine”

Its very clear that problems can and have on this occasion occur after the new software update.

My VMware when loaded works with my Apple Bluetooth keyboard but not with my Apple bluetooth mouse. I have tried connected a wired apple mouse, but still i am unable to use the mouse function when VMware windows 10 has loaded fully.

On another note: In System Preferences/ Security & Privacy/ General/

Beside my VMware not working with my mouse still? on both my iMac computers! I also have Bluestacks not working anymore with the new BIG Sur update I decided to install bluestacks again. During the installation i am asked to go to System Preferences/ Security & Privacy/ General/ it asks me to press the ALLOW in security & Privacy, however this is not shown. Before the update when i first installed the program this worked fine showing the Allow button. However, now it will not show and allow me to confirm that i would like to go ahead and install bluestacks.

Absolutely true. Any time there is a new version of a new OS on any platform, software that ran on the previous versions may fail and need to be updated.

Personally I have VMWare Fusion but I haven't gotten around to test it on Big Sur as yet.

From what I recall, at the time when macOS 10.15.6 was released. VMware Support Engineering verified that there was kernel crashes with macOS, through some software error between the kernel and hypervisor. So it does not matter how many VMs you are running, behavior like a memory leak would occur and the OS would crash. I am running 4 VMs and a Docker container. If one of the VM had heavy activity MacMini would crash and reboot within 4 to 5 hours.

Others had similar until, Apple released the fix to 10.15.6. So naturally, I am pretty gun shy compared to the past.

Some times i wonder if some people who reply here work for apple and don’t want to see any remarks that ref. to Apple new updated software may be causing a problem. Yes, this new update is causing a problem. My VMware worked 100% great then the update came and now it does not work well on 2 of my iMac computers which occurs straight after at the same time. I loaded both VMware to make sure everything was working before the update. Then carried out the new update on both and when i checked both my VMware i had problems with the mouse not being able to select any icons.
