USB-C to HDMI adapter not working

I recently bought a belkin USB-C to HDMI adapter from the apple website, and when I plug it into my Macbook Pro 2019 I get a pop-up saying "USB accessories disabled. Unplug to accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices". This occurs even when I just plug in the adapter, without an HDMI display attached. I'm updating to macOS Big Sur today so we'll see if that fixes the issue.

It's pretty disappointing to see a product sold on the Apple website not work with the device it's designed to work with.

Hi wyatt_j,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Apple Support Communities.

We see that you are having an issue with your USB-C to HDMI adapter that you purchased from Apple, and we're glad to help.

Since this adapter is compatible with your Mac, let's isolate a little for why you see this alert.

Many things could be causing this, from too many items using USB, to a bad HDMI cable.
