I’m installing Big Sur. It has downloaded and been prepared, and has been programming for more than an hour. The slider has been frozen at about 1/3 of the way along for 30+minutes. Is this a problem?

Depending on your machine, it can take quite a while.

We understand that you were having an issue with installing the macOS Big Sur upgrade on your MacBook Pro. Have you been able to get it installed since posting this? If not, try restarting. Does it boot into macOS Big Sur or a previous macOS version?
If it’s showing a previous macOS version, try running the installation again. If it boots into macOS Big Sur, you should be good to go.
