Hello leandro39,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! We see you're having an issue upgrading to macOS Big Sur and we'd like to help.

Have you tried to restart your Mac since receiving that message?

If you're not able to restart normally, try a forced restart: Press and hold the power button on your Mac for at least 10 seconds, then release. If your Mac is on, it turns off.

Unplug all external devices from your Mac, including any displays and USB accessories, and remove any card inserted in the SDXC card slot. Then turn your Mac on.

Give the upgrade a try again: How to upgrade to macOS Big Sur

If you're still having the same issue, try these two types of resets, then try to upgrade again:

How to reset the SMC of your Mac

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

Take care!

Verify you have adequate free storage space available for the install...

Big Sur states that you will need 35.5 GB of free storage when upgrading from High Sierra or newer, and 44.5 GB when upgrading from an older versions.

There are apparently issues with Big Sur on 2013 and 2014 MBPs that cause Apple to post this article on 9 December:

If you can’t install macOS Big Sur on certain 13-inch MacBook Pro computers from 2013 and 2014 - Apple Support

and, based on many other posts here, it now appears that Apple have blocked those models from downloading Big Sur until the problems are resolved.

I have a macOS Catalina 10.15.7, 15-inch, 2019 2.6 GHz 6-core Intel Core i7.

I am unable to install the update, it does not even start the update. I did try to run the installAssistant file manually, still no luck.

did try reset SMC and NVRAM and PRAM.

I did however, created a folder under the root directory a while back. I do not remember the steps, but it did involve bypassing the security features in new macs.

thanks
