No sound on bluetooth devices after upgrade Big Sur

Hi, after I upgraded to big sur, my headphones (and other bluetooth audio devices) don't turn up anymore on the sound coontrol window. It does pair, but cannot select in-output. Only internal and airplay devices...

Already debugged bluetooth (shift-option click on bluetooth icon) but didn't help. Anyone else with same problems or a solution?

I was able to fix the problem with the following steps:

  • Open Terminal app
  • Type in: sudo rm -rf /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/HAL/
  • Restart your iMac

Hopefully this works for you. It was a huge relief for me.

Hi Vincent, sorry for my late reply but mu MacBook was at the repairshop for a new battery. I picked it up just yesterday and tried your solution right away.

Unfortunately it did not help. I receive an illegal option message. I understand absolutely nothing about terminal so don't know where to go from here...

This is the message:

MBP-van-Erwin-2:~ Erwin$ sudo rm -rf/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/HAL/

Password:

rm: illegal option -- /

usage: rm [-f | -i] [-dPRrvW] file ...
