It will likely continue to operate as designed for as long as you are willing to keep your Macintosh in good repair.

Apple has historically provided Security Updates for the current version (now Big Sir) and Two previous versions, and released new major versions annually in the fall. So two years from about now, you may stop receiving regular Security Updates.
