Green orb in iPhone camera

I have had my fair share of issues with Apple, to say the least. Odd things occurred for a while but that was linked to something else.

This is odd enough for me to post about. In the last 4 months - I have taken probably 200 videos. There is a green orb floating around in 4 of those. One was taken at night, two during the day and one through a glass window. I experimented with following it (to see if it was a defect in the camera) but it bounces around and will disappear eventually.

Not sure what my question is except - anyone else?

I’ve been a photographer for over 50 years and all I see are internal reflections of bright points of light bouncing off various lens elements within the lens assembly. They can appear to move because as a lens focuses or zooms some lens elements shift back and forth. The “blobs” can be different colours depending on what anti-reflective coating was used on each element. End of story. Take it or leave it.

Hi Standclearofclosingdoorsplease,

Thanks for getting back to us with those additional details. We understand the concern with this behavior with your iPhone's camera showing this green orb when you record videos. Let's continue working on this together.

What is the exact iOS version installed on your iPhone? Settings > General > About.

Does the issue show in the preview while you're recording the video? is it happening when you shot photos as well? When did you first notice this issue? Do you recall anything changing on your iPhone right before this started occurring?

If your device is up-to-date on software, we'd recommend to restore the device to factory settings (without the backup you will lose data. So verify that you have a newly set up backup)

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Set it up as new and test before restoring to see if the issue continues there, here's how to restore:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If the issue persists afterwards, please contact Apple to investigate this issue further:

so I have been experiencing the same thing for months but not just on my device but on 5 others of family and friends. All only while recording my horses and being filmed from different iPhone devices at the same time and it’s a green orb looking light shooting around then disappears and comes back . Very strange. I have loads of photos and videos taken in all different lighting and it’s still there?

Yes, your zooming in so it changes the distance between the lenses and it's causing it to move around. You can dispute this all you want, it still boils down to being lens flare. If you would read the whole article I posted the link to, you would understand better.

But since you don't believe in the scientific explanation, Here's an answer better suited to you.

You have a guardian angel always by your side. I’ve been seeing these for the last year and a half, my sons father passed away two years ago in sept of 2019. The green orbs can manipulate flame from a candle and will actually make the flame jump from side to side depending on where you have it centered, they are confirmed spirits, guardians, angelic beings, elementals, nature spirits and different energies. When especially high vibrational energies they glow pink and at times resemble the shape of a heart if ur lucky. Consider yourself protected, for there is always an angel on your side watching over you.

To clarify, I was alluding to the fact that your responses have not brought forward any additional construction helpful information with your replies. Assuming that I am not able to understand the physics of the phenomenon is blatantly disrespectful. I am a biomedical engineer with a specialty in biomedical signals and systems. I believe I am quite versed with the physics you're referencing. If you can, please explain with numbers using your pictures if you will, for the sake of clarifying your explanation of the physics you're referring to. Please include equations, I am interested in seeing how you would go about calculating this phenomenon.

Yes, I read it. Please don't be facetious, it's blatantly disrespectful. Don't use capitals. The type of languaging you are using goes against the Rules and Etiquette of Apple Communities. Please see below.

I read the whole thing, more than once, and I did understand it. (Please don't respond in a way to assume anything of others, it's disrespectful and speaks more about who you are than the assumptions you make about others.) I even tried to calculate the reflection/refraction angle to gain a better understanding. I've tried option 1 and option 5 to try to see if that reduces or removes the alleged lens flare, both did not. The other options would need me to invest in camera technology like a lens hood, and I can't justify that expense, considering that I'm not convinced this is what's happening.

If you're convinced, then thank you for your contribution. If you have anything additional to add, I'd be glad to hear it.

I did not misinterpret what you meant by physics, that's not the issue. Please don't be facetious, it's blatantly disrespectful. Don't use capitals. The type of languaging you are using goes against the Rules and Etiquette of Apple Communities. I've posted them before for you, but they are below again. See the postulate about using capitals and being disrespectful? I'm not the only one who's called you out on it...

In a previous reply to me, you said that it happens with the new iPhones more than the old ones. From what you're saying now, it's because I have an old iPhone that it is happening. So, to clarify, do you mean to say that this happens more often in newer iPhone models or older iPhone models? You're not being clear, and seemingly contradicting yourself. I know it does not have night mode capabilities, I never said it did and why would that be relevant anyway? Clearly, from the pictures brought forth by other members of the community, this is happening in all levels of lighting, low-light, and super bright. So I'm not sure that is worth exploring.

I will consider bringing it to Apple Store Genius. I will contact them and see if they think it's worth bringing it in, seeing as there's nothing wrong with it. These orbs don't bother me. I don't necessarily want to avoid them or get rid of them, I just want to know what they are and the answers I've read (thoroughly and did my own research) it does not explain what I'm experiencing. Maybe it's a coincidence, maybe it's not. I don't have enough information to make that conclusion.

We're all different. So if you're convinced, then that's great. Please respect that I am not convinced yet, and that is not because I don't understand your responses, I very much do. You've taken the time and energy to restate your opinion and point multiple times. I definitely get it. Thank you.

This is for photos. My issues are videos. Taken day or night. Taken through glass. Taken in my car. And i will hold the phone, not move it, record and the light will bounce around by itself or all together disappear. I mean - when I do notice it, i try to catch up to it and mirror it to ensure it’s not a lens flare. Mirroring it doesn’t work. I end up following it around and is moves in odd directions and then disappears. Sometimes it’ll come back - like out of the bottom right of the screen. Again - this is all video.

I've experienced the same this past month! My friend recently loss a loved one, and she told me he came into her cousin's dream, and said if they see a white light in photos, that it's him. Then she showed me videos where she was recording his kids playing with her daughter, and a white dot like the green orbs in your pics was present, and it was following his kids around. The following day, I was on Facetime and started seeing a green and a blue orb that would appear and then disappear. It happened again a few days ago. And again last night. Last night I recorded a video, turned the light off and as soon as I turned the light off in the video, a green orb came into the camera, moved around and disappeared. I started looking it up, which brought me here. In the video, I was just laying down to meditate and said I had a meeting with my higher self. Not sure if that's what brought on the spiritual connection. Orbs are usually a sign of spiritual energy.

My friends both said they thought it was a sprite. Which is another word for fairies (that’s what google said)...a lot of people said it was just the reflection and I want to believe that, but I’ve got another 20 photos at night with this phone and there haven’t been any orbs. The only difference was the moon was full. I mean It doesnt matter it’s just cool to think about. Ha!
