Qi charging does not work with iPhone 12 pro max

Mine is also on 14.2. Every new model phone that charges wirelessly with Qi (not just iPhones) runs into problems with Qi chargers that previously worked. Sometimes it is the Qi charger as it only is partially Qi compliant, sometimes it can be a new case, sometimes the device needs to be rebooted, sometimes you have to be more careful about placement, sometimes it is a new case. First test is always to do a forced restart of the phone, then unplug and plug back in the Qi charger and remove any case.

I had the same issue. You can try a MagSafe from apple which is what I did. However it didn’t work, so I schedule an appointment with an apple store and they replace my old iPhone 12 Promax with a new device. I specifically told them not to reset my phone because it would work for 2 days or 3 and then stop working again. My issue was resolved by replacing the defective device.

I've got 6 wireless Qi charger stands scattered around my house so I can just set my iPhone down wherever I am; that way I can see it while it charges. I noticed they all either did not work with my new iPhone 12 Pro Max or stopped working shortly after I purchased it. I just re-started my iPhone, and now they all seem to be working (although on some I have to place it horizontally rather than vertically). So try re-starting your iPhone! Hope that helps.

There are some too many reports of problems to be individual hardware problems or indeed if this were the case then Apple have a serious problem on their hands to potentiality replace thousands of phones. This is a widespread issue although you’re ok by the sound of it but others not so lucky.

I personally think it is a combination of software and type of Qi charger power.

I had the same problem on an old Qi charger which would not work at all then with software updates would work for a bit before flashing error on charger. Tried a new Mophie 3:1 directly from Apple online stores but again intermittent charging. Sending this back just now.

Anyway purchased a Belkin 3:1 from Argos and it’s working, at the moment anyway, noted I’m also running iOS 14.4 beta.

I've had my iPhone 12 Pro Max for a few months now. For the first time, I noticed today that it stopped charging wirelessly. I rebooted the phone and it start wirelessly charging once again. I did not check to see if wired charging was also an issue before I rebooted the phone.

Same issue started for me yesterday when I saw a low charge notification. My 12 Pro Max had worked fine on all three of my different Qi chargers the last 3 weeks and simply stopped taking a charge yesterday unless I used the lightning cable. Did a port off/reset this morning and has now started taking the Qi charge again, at least for the moment. Will see how long it continues to charge. Hope Apple is checking on its forums/discussion page so they can provide a permanent fix.

My pro max will work every time—AFTER I RESTART IT. Poor quality job by Apple. I have to restart my 12 Pro Max multiple times some days. There was a time this would have never happened with an Apple product. I nearly switched to Samsung this time—wish I had!!!

Yes had the same problem, phoned Apple UK , tried a few things, still wouldn’t charge, sent a return box, posted back, sent a replacement iPhone within 7 days, thank you Apple.

Also advised not to keep on charger, as this will shorten it battery life! So I charge mine every other day !

I have the same problem. Ridiculous that Apple put a product out with all the problems the iphone 12 has. The phone will usually work on Qi charging if you restart it. I have to do that at least once a day anyway for screen freeze!!!!

For me it started with the last iOS update. I have to turn the phone off and back on to get Qi to work. I barely use Qi but this seems like an inconvenience at worst.

After doing checks ie, restart, iPhone 12 Pro Max, I was sent packaging, to return iPhone and is in the process of being checked over-watch this space.

they do know it’s a problem with this last model!

Had the same issue. I shut it down, and then placed it on top the charger and it turned on. No issues wire charging now. Thanks.

I bought an iphone 12 pro max about a month ago. Iphone 10 I traded in was a much better phone. I am experiencing frequent freezes requiring restart and only way wireless charging will work is with a restart. I average at least 2 restarts a day. Does work OK for a while after a restart.

The issue is only on wireless charging with qi certified chargers. It’s intermittent too. For example, last night my phone did charge fully. The night before it didn’t get more than 10%. Also, it goes on and off through the period. even more annoying since when it goes on, the phone lights up and vibrates, next to bed waking me up. It’s so annoying I’ve had to move my charger out of the room.

Apple please actually fix this. Rebooting does not solve this for long.

I am having the same issue. Qi Chargers that worked flawlessly with my iPhone 11 Pro Max no longer work with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Actually purchased two new chargers, and they also do not work. The case is an OtterBox Defender case, which is the same case I used on my iPhone 11 Pro Max, except it is even thinner than the old case, which should make it work better, not worse.

The phone starts to charge, so it is recognized by the various chargers, then it just stops charging. BIG PROBLEM. Tried turning the phone off and doing a soft-reset, to no avail.
