The chargers worked perfectly with my XSmax...using the identical case, for the 12, but no charge.

A software issue is extremely unlikely. My iPhone 12 Pro (iOS 14.2) works just fine with my wireless charger, though admittedly I must be somewhat more precise about placing it correctly than with a previous model iPhone.
the Yootech worked perfectly for my X and is very highly rated on Amazon, but I see a lot of people are having problems with wireless chargers (various brands) with their 12's.
Could it be a software issue?
