Mac mail flags not working - Big Sur
Since the Big Sur upgrade I can't flag emails. I use this facility a lot, so this is a real problem. Has anyone found a workaround?

Missing Flags in Column View
To see your email flags while using Column Layout:
I actually set up a "case" with Apple Care and they told me it was a feature, not a bug!!! Phooey! My MacBook Pro did show flags, but the iMac didn't and now with this answer all is fixed (using Big Sur). Thank you!!!
I realize that for some, using the Column Layout is ideal, and that's where the layout can be manged as to where you want the flag, date, subject, etc... but what about the NON-Column Layout? That's the problem for me, where the flag has unfortunately been shoved off to the far right, as opposed to the far left where it is in all the previous OS versions... and like the original poster said, it's incredibly annoying to have a flag all the way to the right, rather than first on the left, as we do read L to R!
Does anyone have any input on the non-column layout flag location issue? Or do I just need to say something at Product Feedback... Thank you!

I"m in non column layout and my flags are not giving me the option to change color with the drop down button. Instead I'm forced to use the smart bar on my keyboard. It's terribly annoying and I think it's a bug. it's a two handed action rather than one click. I hate it. I'm not a fan of Big Sur either. Someone from Apple needs to fix the bug with flags. IT's totally limiting the manner in which I file my emails.
At first this didn't work for me. Then I tried Ctrl + right click and now it's all fine! Flags showing. Thanks so much for the help. Better than Apple Support who wanted me to completely re-load the operating system (warning I might lose some files, if not backed up, in the process). I hope someone lets them know how to fix this seemingly common problem.
Flags not working in Mail - (Big Sur 11.2.3). If I try to set a flag, the mail item disappears (goes to a different file?) which is NO HELP at all. I want my flagged mail to show in Mail's context (time/date) and my mail in normal sequence. The 'Sort' bar (across the top, between the up/down arrows and 'From') only shows a small 'o' and does not sort by date. Also- I don't want to go hunting for mails but do want to find colour-flagged mails among the others. When Big Sur arrived, all my flagged mails disappeared - eventually found the OUT OF CONTEXT in colour "order" - VERY unhelpful!
Thank you Mariyam!!! I tried finding the way to get the previously referenced screenshot but couldn't find it. I was even on the phone with Apple talking to "Princess" (no, that's what she said her name was!) - and she had NO CLUE how to get the flags back! This forum is a sanity saver! Thank you again!
I am seriously considering it. Mail is painfully slow. Just managing the inbox results in long periods of spinning wheels. Click. Spinning wheel. Delete email. Spinning wheel. I have tried everything. Researched fixes online. No dice. Spent a long time with Apple support. No luck. Rebuilt mailbox. Used the "Speed Up Email" tool from Clean My Mac. I would NOT recommend upgrading unless you have to. I've had trouble with Photoshop and Illustrator too. I spend far more time trying to get my 2019 27" iMac to work than I do actually getting any work done. What a disaster.
Have no idea what you are trying to indicate here. Sorry. Nothing is working other than if I try to flag it, it does go into the Flagged box but no flag actually shows beside the message. Annoying upgrade Apple!
I just noticed this today (Nov. 16). Let's hope someone sees this!
I have also experienced the same problem.. and cannot find a way to access the flags.
Using flags for me is integral for work. I can flag emails but when I try to view the flagged emails folder in the sidebar, nothing happens. This is TERRIBLE for me. I hope a fix is on the way.
I have this question too
On a MacBook without mouse, right click is two fingers on the right side of the track pad (at least for me).
I'm not following where you clicked.
Is there any other way you can describe it - or show with a screenshot?
Thanks.
Thank you !! Perfect
