If iPad isn’t responding, do one of the following:
- On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
- On an iPad with Face ID: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.
If the iPad doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen.
If your iPad is new - and you continue to experience difficulties - you would be well advised to return it to your retailer. If purchased directly from Apple, you have 14-day unconditional return period, during which you can exchange or refund. Beyond 14-days, for a faulty iPad - and depending upon your country/region - you might only be offered a reconditioned iPad of the same model and specification.
You might also consider seeking assistance from Apple Support. You’ll find the Contact Support link at top-right of this page. Even if purchased from a third-party retailer, assistance may also be sought from the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.
