What are ways to prevent MagSafe charger imprint on iPhone case?

Have you found creative solution to prevent the new MagSafe charger from creating an imprint on the back of your iPhone's silicon or leather case?

I found 1 solution and I think it works well.

There are at least 2 issues with the current MagSafe charger:

  1. It will leave an imprint on softer iPhone case materials such as leather and silicone
  2. The Magsafe charger does not come with an easy way to peel away from the back of the iPhone. Yes, you can grab on the wire and slightly pry it away but it seems this could stress the wire connection and over time create problems for the wire connection

My solution to these 2 problems is to sew a thing fabric cloth sleeve in which the puck portion of the charger goes in. The cloth prevents the puck from leaving an imprint and there is enough fabric to which you can grab and pry away the charger from the phone when you need it to disconnect!

Apple's Magsafe charger solution is nice but it does have these 2 terrible (I think they are terrible) design flaws. Here are two images of what this simple fabric sleeve looks like when partially inserted and when fully inserted. You can se that there is enough fabric on the corners to pull the Magsafe away from the phone without having to resort to yanking on the wire.

Ways that Apple could re-design the charger to prevent either or both of these problems:

  1. Perhaps a slightly thicker puck with a middle groove that rings around the middle (like a 'waistband') so that fingertips can latch on to and pry the puck itself without being tempted to yank on the wire
  2. a layer of very thin material (vinyl? cotton?) that covers the side of the puck that would contact the phone case

I'm not sure why the current design would leave an imprint. Is it because silicone on silicone or on leather would create a mark? This is something for materials engineering to resolve elegantly, but otherwise it seems that cotton fabric does the trick (so far!).

I could re-design my homemade solution when I get time. I might use a more color-coordinated fabric, I could cut the fabric so that the edges opposite the wire conforms to the rounded shape of the puck rather than its current rectangular shape.

I applaud your solution as I agree with both the issues you raise. The minute I first connected the MagSafe charger to the iPhone Case, I looked at that very typical extra vinyl wrap where the charger cable is connected to the actual charger pad and thought of all the charger cable wear issues with past cables. Thinking about grabbing that every morning just reliable predicts a future wear problem. I have found after using the charger overnight a few times that I now tend to grab the charger pad itself vs the cable. I suppose Apple would say that any cover will cause some reduction in charging speed, but I doubt it would slow things down much with the cloth you used.

Yeah, I don't think the thin piece of fabric I chose will cause any reduction in charging speed. After all, it's way thinner than the leather case that the iPhone is encased in.

Also, would love to hear of alternative creative solutions! I came up with this idea the day I picked up my MagSafe charger.

At first I thought I was going to be fine with the charger imprints but discovered that as soon as I tested it and saw the marks I was NOT happy about it. So this was a quick solution :)
