Help! I'm getting a lot of color banding Within photos

Hello

I'm getting a lot of color banding with my new iPhone12 promax. The iPhones have always had a little bit of color banding within the skies of photos and landscapes but this new phone really exacerbates the issue with the processor of the phone. I had a weekend in Napa Valley and all my landscape photos had so much banding that they were rendered useless. I'm almost have a sound mind to return my new phone and go with an android. Does anyone here have any helpful tips on how to deal with the color banding within the actual camera phone itself?

Yeah, it's noticeable in blue sky photos in either HEIF or jpeg without any editing. It also occurs in gray skies, but isn't as noticeable until you edit. The only way around it at this point is to shoot in raw and if space is an issue, do minor edits in Photos, then open it in an app like Photoshop Express as a jpeg and then save it. The delete the raw if you want. Apple needs to fix this. I also wish they'd give the option of shooting HEIF or jpeg with a flat profile. That might help too.

I've figured out what it is. It's the Scene Detection which defaults to on. Go into the Settings and in Camera turn it off. And, I've also turned off "View Full HDR" in Photos Settings. That adjusts the display to show the full dynamic range and shouldn't affect edits, but I think it does.

The Scene Detection is similar to the Intelligent Auto setting on many cameras and so it detects a blue sky scene, but overcooks the sky. I'm getting much better results now for editing with it off. Bear in mind that Apple ProRaw includes adjustments that Scene Detection does. It's raw, so it shouldn't matter, but see if it helps.
