Does anyone know if there is a way to extend the length of time that you can dictate on an iMac in Pages? I am just now trying to use it and it shuts off after 15-30 seconds. Can this be extended?

Based on what we found here Use dictation to enter text in Pages on Mac - Apple Support it does note, as quoted, "Note: For best results, speak for no more than 40 seconds at a time." Which tells us you shouldn't be cut off before then at least.
Are you following those specific steps in the article to use dictation? Are you seeing that cut off at 15-30 seconds if you dictate within another application? Which macOS are you using under the Apple menu > About This Mac?

Presently, with Big Sur and Pages v10.3.5, your dictation no longer uses enhanced dictation (local to your Mac), and that spoken dictation now must round-trip between your Mac and Apple's dictation servers. Depending on the quality of that network connection, and the 40 seconds you were quoted from Sharon_419, your mileage may vary for that window of Pages attention time.
Thanks. I’m doing some extensive writing and it would be great to have a dictation app that I could leave it running for much longer before it shuts off. Such as 5 to 10 minutes or even longer.
I probably need to look into aftermarket stuff because it sounds like Apple is just not capable of doing that?
