Can the speakers on a MacBook pro be repaired/replaced?

my right speaker started sounded really bad - lots of distortion and crackling. I've done all the resets suggested in the support forum - it must be a hardware problem. Does anyone know if this is an easy repair? Is it worth the cost? Or should I just buy some external speakers. I'm dealing with the situation now by running all the sound through my left speaker.

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the speakers in your laptop. The speakers on this model are a separate part although they are installed in pairs.

Edit: You should also check to see if your laptop is part of the Battery Recall:

The part itself only cost about $25 - $50 US with labor & taxes are extra and vary by region. Contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for a repair estimate.
