Still Getting "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device"

In an earlier and currently closed thread, it was said that this message was a bug in iOS 14.0. It was suggested that the problem would be fixed in a future release, the problem was marked "solved", and the thread closed. Clicking on the upgrade message's "more info" button provides no information about what the required update actually is.

I upgraded to an iPhone 12 (Pro Max), delivered on 11/13/2020. I am running the latest Catalina and iOS 14.1. Starting on 11/16/2020, I am now getting the "software update is required" message. Since I have no intention of upgrading to Big Sur in the near future, I would like to know ...

Is this message still regarded as a bug to be ignored?

Is the bug in iOS?

If this is not a bug, then what is the required update? Is it a patch to Catalina? Big Sur?

Thank you for trying to help, but the article you cited is about how to update, which is not what I am looking for. (I already know how to update.) What I want to know is whether or not the request to update is still considered a bug in iOS, as reported in this post on September 18th, and if it is not a bug, then what would I be updating to.

Thanks again just the same.
