All of the information about doing this points you to the App Store where there is indeed an entry for High Sierra. However, when you click GET it says it is not found. Is there some other place outside the App Store where I can download this from? Thanks!

What model/year Mac are you using? If it came with a version of macOS later than High Sierra you can't download it.

I am using a 2019 iMac but I need the installer to create a bootable installer on an external drive for my old 2009 iMac. I can download Mojave from the App Store but it doesn't support my old iMac. As I indicated, there is an entry in the App Store for High Sierra but when you try toGET it it says not found, This is different from the error I get with the updates (that I can download from the Support downloads which indicates they are not supported on my new iMac). I previously was able to find web links for the software (so I could bypass the App Store) but I cannot seem to find those now.

Thanks again for the reply. It does appear to be the case now that I am running Catalina. Geez - what an incredibly dumb restriction! Anyway, fortunately the old iMac has a CD drive so I just gave up and installed used the original Snow Leopard install disk to put an OS on my external hard drive.
Thanks but this just ends up taking you to the App Store which as I indicated gets a "not found" when you try to download High Sierra (I know that the entry is there is just doesn't work).

You can download Mojave because 2019 iMacs originally shipped with Mojave. You cannot download a version of macOS earlier than what your Mac shipped with.
Thanks. I am using Safari but running Catalina which is what appears to be the crux of the problem trying to do the download. I've revert back to an old Snow Leopard CD in frustration.
