If you own the iPhone 11 and there is a crescent moon next to one of your contacts, in messages (on the right hand side) you may have tapped the HIDE ALERT BUTTON.
Go to contact and tap the. “ i “ up toward left under contact picture or illustration/initials, and scroll down where it says HIDE ALERT. it most likely is green/on. Meaning it does not notify you when the person sent you the message/text at that exact time. You’d only know if you went into messages. Tap it and it will go back to gray and you will be receiving notifications ASAP when that person attempts to get a hold of you right away at real time. 😉

That means you will not receive notifications from that contact when they message you. In the message list, swipe the message thread to the left and tap the bell icon.
