After updating my Apple TV to 14.2 I am unable to play audio from tv speakers and HomePod simultaneously. Any fix for this?
Apple TV 4K, tvOS 14
They changed something with the new update, I cannot longer select my AirPlay speaker(HK Citation 500) from the settings/Default Audio Output. It’s no longer available, I can only select AirPlay via the control center, and only works when a video is playing or music. But no longer works for the menu and stuff, that’s the only reason I bought the speaker. And it worked for a few days, until it automatically updated.
I used to be able to play music/Spotify/pandora on my Apple TV speaker hooked to my receiver and then airplay it to other rooms that had Sonos and other Apple TV’s for simultaneous sound throughout the house. However, now when I select another room or speaker it will mute the sound in the Apple TV I am using. I can select every other room and they will all play the audio, except the Apple TV I am using. It seems that they changed it to “TV Speakers” as the source of the Apple TV you are using, and when you try and airplay simultaneously to another speaker it mutes that “TV Speaker”.
If you keep the “HOME” button pressed and then chose AirPlay from that menu, it will play from both, the external and the Tv speakers. But you just can’t select an external speaker as the default speaker anymore. I guess it has to do with the HomePod theater speaker implementation.
If you can, talk to Apple support, they might not be aware of this.
If you hold the Home button you can pick an external speaker, but it will mute the TV speaker (or in my case the receiver and speakers hooked up to the apple TV). That is the issue, you can no longer play both simultaneously.
That’s not the only issue, and in my case if I select the external speaker that way, the TV speakers still play if they’re also ticked on that menu.
But the sound is lagging a lot more than before. And you need to select the external speaker every time you turn on your AppleTV, it doesn’t remain selected as you cannot choose it as the default audio output anymore.
