Why is spotlight so slow in Catalina?

Before upgrade from mojave was really fast (less 2 seconds). Now it takes more than 5 seconds of files I use to use and open from spotlight. For me is totally broken. I have already rebuild the index. Any clue or patch? It is frustrating and slowing my workflow a lot. I'm thinking in going back to mojave

Also, consider reviewing some old plugins and preference panes that are not doing anything useful - you have an old pref pane for FUSE (2011), and Silverlight (which is no longer supported in any current browser).

You probably don't need the pdf plugins.

Oh... and since performance is a concern, you may want to consider ditching Chrome. It is a resource hog and it is especially detrimental if you use any video applications, since it hogs the videotoolbox and prevents apps like iMovie and FCP from using it properly.

Hi, the software installed is the same as it was in previous versions of macOS and the free space is more or less the same. I always try to have free space in HD of at least the double of ram (16Gb). Anyway, Catalina did something to spotlight because just before upgrade worked fine and just after upgrade was slow.

I'll uninstall avg. I don't use chrome as regular browser, but I don't think this is the problem because before it wasn't.

Thanks!

Jose

See if you qualify:

Two things stand out very quickly from the report:

1) Uninstall AVG. Third party antivirus offer zero protection, and conflict with the built-in system security. I would not be surprised if this alone were responsible for the slowness you described.

2) Try to make some more space on the drive. I know it is hard with such a small drive, but performance of any drive will degrade when your free space is too low; plus the OS is constantly using some of that space for caches, vm, and stuff.
