MacOS upgrade Mavericks to Catalina

Have Mavericks 10.9.5 on MacBook Pro Early 2013. Article says it should be compatible with Catalina but install freezes at Install window.

Even though it says it is possible there have been a lot of reports of the install freezing.

Part of the installation is the conversion of the file system from HFS+ to the newer APFS system.

And this is where the install freezes.


I would have recommended upgrading to macOS High Sierra as an intermediary step.

High Sierra was the first OS to use the APFS system and would have installed the firmware

necessary for it.


If you want to install macOS High Sierra click on the link below and go to Download OS

and select High Sierra.
