Backup before transfer?
Why do i need to back up my phone before transferring my data to the new phone?

It is a precautionary measure. It is insurance, should something go wrong during the transfer and data gets corrupted. If that happens then you have a backup file to restore your iPhone from. You are welcome to make the transfer without creating a backup file as well. Choice and risk is entirely yours.
