Can I use my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-Inch, Late 2014) as an external monitor/display for the new Mac Mini M1 2020?

No, because all 2020 Mac's including the Mac Mini do not support Target Display Mode.
see > Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support
"You can connect any of these older iMac models to another Mac from 2019 or earlier for use as an external display"
The answer from Luna:
Thanks for contacting us! You can use Luna with your setup, but the 5K
iMac will be displaying at half its resolution (2560x1440 pixels).
Due to the technical complexities, it is hard to put an estimate on
when we release support for 5K resolution.
One thing to note, an external monitor, a mouse and a keyboard
connected to the Mac mini will be required for the initial setup
process since you will need to install the primary Luna app on your
Mac mini.
Let me know if you have more questions!
All the best,
Double whammy.
The late 2014 iMac itself does not support Target Display Mode.
I have the same question and I was thinking of going the "Luna Display" https://shop.astropad.com route. Does anyone any experience with this?
thanks for the fast reply
exactly double F-up
Nice thank you I’m checking them out in the moment they don’t support 4K or 5K resolution so I asked what kind of resolution can somebody expect on a iMac 5K
I’ll let you know the answer
The only other option if you have ethernet or one of the new ludicrous speed
WiFi's would be to use Screen Sharing. Depending on what you are doing on
the new Mini it may be more than sufficient.
