How to create transparent images that work with pages on the iPad?

How do you create images on the iPad that work with the pages text wrap around function.

E.g. Like the giraffe and butterfly logo?

Reading here they need to be png files with an alpha layer.
What app on the iPad can create such images and how.

I want to be able to draw an image on the iPad and next use it in pages directly.

If you use a PNG image with a transparent background it works fine... The question of course is how to produce one. If you have a Mac of any sort you can use the background removal tool in Preview (in snow leopard anyway)

Then email to your iPad, save in photos, and then call it in to your pages doc. I just tried it and it works fine.

If you can't use Preview in Snow Leopard then I'm not sure. What I do know is that a PNG with a transparent background will work.

Sorry I didn't look carefully enough, and you said "other OS" so I guess Preview is no use. You do need some kind of image editor that can handle alpha channel to produce the images. Other alternatives include getting some PNGs off the web, or hopefully someone will write an ipad app that will do it. I couldn't see any but I'll let you know if I do.

Well it sounds like we're in the same boat. I've got a variety of uses for drawing apps, and so far have got iDraw, Brushes and Drawing Pad. They're all fabulous and they're all different but none export their pictures with transparent backgrounds (some do png, but still no transparency)

In the meantime I'm going to keep my eye out, but also live with the email-round-trip workaround.

You going to have to either draw what you want in Gimp or make the transparency in Gimp. There are no third party apps in the app store that works in layers or alpha channels.

That is strictly speaking not true. Sketchbook "works" in layers and handles transparency. The problem is that it does not export transparency.

On Mac or pc there are of course other applications than the gimp that also could do the job.

There is now a possibility to use ArtStudio to create transparent images that can be copied to Pages.

1. Buy ArtStudio in iTunes.

2. In ArtStudio click on the folder icon > New Image.

3. Set custom size, if you know the size in advance. Start with Layer "Transparent".

4. Click on OK.

5. Draw something.

6. Click on the folder icon again. Export Image > Copy to clipboard.

7. Paste into Pages.
