How can I stop store ads?

I am receiving numerous store ads on my MAC Air. HELP!!!

MacBook Air 13″, OS X 10.11

ad blocker works and the extension is good that works with safari.

also make sure "block ads" is set in safari.

Why am I receiving adware popups on my Mac?
