Purchasing Music on ITunes

Why does the iTunes music store not allow you to purchase songs? When you choose a song it defaults to Apple Music to purchase a subscription for $9.99. Tried on my IMac, IPad, IPhone and yes they are all up to date

how to buy a song on Music-iTunes w/o Apple Music? I don't have option anywhere to buy a song. I found song. But on right end next to price, the pulldown menu is 6 choice, but now is to buy song. I read this, Buy music from the iTunes Store on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support Doesn't help if option to buy not apparent. Page appear to be solely a promotion to START YOUR TRIAL for Apple Music, which I don't want. Am I out of touch and only way to buy songs on iTunes is by subscribing to Apple Music? Appears to be so.
