I have an older LG Ultrafine 4K monitor without the second Thunderbolt 3 port for daisy-chaining.
It works well with my M1 mini. It would not wake the display from sleep with an OWC Thunderbolt 3 cable,
(I had to unplug and re-plug the cable) but I bought an Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable (0.8 m), and now it seems to work fine.
I think the older LG Ultrafine 4K monitor is USB-C but not Thunderbolt 3, even though the connectors are the same. Normally non-Thunderbolt devices won't work with Thunderbolt cables but most 0.5m. and the Apple 0.8 m, Thunderbolt 3 cables will work with non-Thunderbolt USB-C devices.
