Vertical colored lines on the display - MacBook Pro 2016

I see lot of colored vertical lines on my MacBook Pro 2016. I started seeing them randomly almost a month ago and they are persistent. The lines vanish when I am on a webpage which is has white color or have a background which is white. I am thinking it is some problem with the connections to the display. But can't understand magic behind white color rendering. Any help is appreciated.

I looked for similar posts, but seems like every case I found is slightly different than mine. Please help!

I am sure that the options that I am about to present to you, to address your issue, have already been tried by you. These options due a great job addressing software related issues. If none of the options work for you then you can almost bet on this being a hardware issue. It may be related to the display or display cable or the logic board.

  1. Reset SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset SMC. If that does not solve things then-
  2. Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM. If that does not solve things then-
  3. Enter ➔ Safe Mode and see if the screen issue still exists in Safe mode. Log out of Safe Mode and then reboot computer. If that does not solve things then-
  4. Finally if none of the above works then you can enter ➔ macOS Recovery Mode and reinstall the macOS and see if that solves it.

Well, thanks for the recommendation. I did go to the Apple store. Perhaps only option they had was to replace the entire screen unit for $478+tax. But the screen is not physically damaged as far as I can see, I am suspecting some loose connection with cable or cable might have been worn out. I want to see if anyone here has some suggestions/ hacks for me to solve this problem without having to spend major $$. Already this laptop is 4 years old, instead of spending on this, I can probably spend on new M1 MacBooks. /shrug
