Campatibility with Photoshop CS2 and a new 27" iMac

I'm wanting to buy a new iMac 27" Desktop as my old 27" (OS X El Capitan) is now 10 years old needs replacing.

The problem is, I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 which I bought at the same time and I want to be able to install this on the new iMac.

Is this compatible? I don't want to update my photoshop.

Thanks in advance.

No, the new iMac will come with Catalina preinstalled and they do not run older 32bit apps.

You are going to have to do a lot of research into any apps you use now in your 10 year old iMac

and the viability of them running on a new iMac.

And if you buy a new iMac it cannot be downgraded to an older operating system.

Photoshop is 64bit but has 32bit elements that will not run on Catalina.

Use this app to search for 32bit apps, https://www.stclairsoft.com/Go64/

Why not go to the Adobe forums and ask there.

The most recent macOS is macOS Big Sur which was released on the 12th of November,

soon macs will start shipping with that pre-installed and that will be even more unlikely

to run PhotoshopCS2. At the moment the shops or online retailers will be selling macs

with Catalina pre-loaded.

Adobe CS2 was released in 2005 you cannot expect these older apps to keep on working

on modern machines that have newer chipsets and software architecture.

Adobe and Apple are in the business of making money not in the business of making you happy.

Newer versions of Photoshop only come as a subscription app, which most people hate.

There are alternatives to Photoshop, there is the free and popular Gimp, I am not joking

that is the name, https://www.gimp.org which works in a similar manner to Photoshop.

There is also Affinity Photo which you can buy in the App Store, it is a one off payment

and again is very popular as an alternative to Photoshop. Both of these apps will take

time getting used to as they have to have different ways of doing things but are set up

to mirror Photoshop as much as they can legally do.
