iPhone losing contacts, mails and calendar and needing to resynchronise

Hoping someone on this forum can help with an intermittent issue we are facing with several users:

We have had reports from several users that they have lost all their contacts, emails and calendar information and their phones need to totally resynchronise to restore the information.
This appears to be happening after maintenance where the Exchange server is being rebooted. We were able to reproduce the issue on a test device this week-end, but the 2 users in question were not affected this time. We have no idea why this is happening and nobody appears to have any idea why this might be happening.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem or have any ideas?

Thanks

Stephane

I just upgraded to version 4. I lost all my notes and my calendar. This is a major problem for me. I wish I had never upgraded. I tried to restore from "backup", but it appears when I upgraded it never backed up. The apple expert said it should have backed up. I spent 2 hours last night trying to find the info on my computer. After stumping two Apple experts, can anyone help me?
I REALLY need my notes.

Thanks,
Mary Beth

Probably related to how the server is rebooted. If it is taken offline before it is rebooted there should be no problem, because the phones cannot reach the server. However, if the server is partially up but its data store is down the phone will think that there is no email, contacts or calendar and will dutifully sync the empty content to the phone.

This happened to me twice this week. My exhange server lost its internet connection, so my iphone lost contact with tge server. All my contacts were lost. With 2549 of them, it takes all day for me to get it back. This is kind of rediculous.

Can I save my contacts to my sim card? Is there a way to make sure that they are not deleted in this situation?

This should not happen; if it does your Exchange server is not being properly managed. If the phone loses its internet connection your content will not disappear. It's only if the Exchange server loses its database connection but remains online that this will happen, and it happens because the Exchange server tells the phone you have no contacts. So yell at your IT department.
