How can the hard disk be full when I use iCloud?

I'm using iCloud and have penty of free space there. I don't store anything on the hard disk but applications. However the hard disk on MacBook Pro (120 GB, OS Big Sur) is completely full.

Do I need to buy a larger hard disk?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

iCloud takes space on your computer's drive. A 120 GB internal drive is not enough to do anything except maybe a little browsing and light emailing. I would not buy a computer today running a modern operating system without getting at least a 512 GB SSD.
