Calibration

Hi,

Thanks for letting me in here in this community.

I am a photographer and I have a question about calibration. I have an iMac, bought it this year (Retina 4K, 21.5 inch).

Is it possible to calibrate the screen?

I have noticed that the colors of my prints doesn't really look like the colors on the screen. The colors on my prints is slightly paler. The lab I use is a professional (not their "fault") - I guess it is all about the calibration.

If it is possible to calibrate - how do I proceed?

Many thanks in advance!

Kindly Sofi

Welcome Sofi!

An excellent question. There is limited software calibration ability built into macOS. Do System Preferences > Displays and click the "Color" tab:

Read about it here: Calibrate your Mac display - Apple Support

Pro users usually choose a hardware-based calibration system—the colorimeter—that consists of a detector that temporarily attaches to "read" the screen's color reproduction, and software that accomplishes any required adjustments.

I would start by asking your lab for a recommendation. If you and the lab are on the same colorimiter system, that increases the chances of everyone saying"win-win."

For examples, see Amazon's offerings:
