I recently updated to macOS Big Sur, and I am having trouble with my external hard drive. The hard drive keeps randomly disconnecting from my Mac Pro so I can't really use the drive at all. Any one else have issues with that? It's WD Caviar Black 6 TB connected with the Orico USB3 dock. Thanks!

And there have been several OS updates and every time I hope they have addressed the issue. I try it...and nothing! Very frustrating
I have bought a more recent hub and my connection problems have stopped.

I'm using two Seagate 4TB external drives. The issue I spoke to has disappeared on my Mac since taking those actions.
My Mac is awake all the time, all sleeping setting are off. I have the same problem. Issue still not sorted...
