How to find my adaptor and devices on MacBook Pro

Hi there, Have just purchased a uni adaptor, it all lights up when plugged in as dose the memory stick that is plugged into the adaptor, but where do I find it? Nothing comes up on my desktop, have searched this Mac but can't find it? Newbie on a Mac, sorry if being stupid!
